We love our runners and want to accommodate where possible, so we offer the following registration policies - please take a moment to review these.
You accepted these policies during the registration process, but if, for any reason, you no longer agree, you have 24 hours following registration to request a cancellation of your race entry and payment.
Squamish 50 is a standalone event and has its own registration policies, separate from the rest of our races. Differences will be outlined where applicable.
Can I get a refund?
Full refunds are only offered to those who purchased the third-party protection policy, AND if the reason for withdrawing is covered.
The links below provide all the details and processes for submitting a claim via RegShield, including details of accepted reasons for refunds:
If your claim is denied or you are not eligible for a refund, then you may still be able to defer your entry. NOTE: You cannot defer your Squamish 50 entry.
Squamish 50 Withdrawal Refund
You can receive a 50% refund of your entry fees if you contact us to officially drop out by May 1, midnight PST. After May 1, refunds will no longer be processed.
Pregnancy Refund
If you purchased the protection policy, you can make a refund claim with supporting medical documents.
If you did not purchase the protection policy, we offer a full refund of race entry upon a doctor’s certification of pregnancy. Please email run@trailrunning.ca. NOTE: Refunds do not include the processing fee charged by Race Roster.
Can I defer my entry?
Entries for all races can be deferred to any CMTR event that is not yet sold out, up to but not including the same race next year.
You cannot defer into the Squamish 50 or the Alpenglow 100.
Deferral Policies
- Up to 30 days before race day, we offer a 100% deferral of fees.
- Between 14 and 30 days before race day, we offer a 50% deferral of fees.
- Within 2 weeks of race day - No refunds. No deferrals. No exceptions.
- Entries can be deferred only once to a single event.
- Deferrals are non-transferable and can only be used by you.
- Deferrals can only be used towards registration fees and are not valid towards merchandise purchases.
- Deferrals are subject to sell-outs and do not guarantee you entry.
- If your deferral value exceeds the new registration fee, the difference will not be credited or refunded.
- Deferral codes must be used at the time of registration. We will not retroactively refund or credit deferrals.
- If you had purchased the third-party protection policy, the policy does not carry over to your new registration.
Can I transfer or sell my bib?
Bibs cannot be transferred or sold. Runners may be eligible for a race deferral. NOTE: The Whistler Half Marathon does allow bib transfers. Please consult the WHM Cancellation Policy page for reference.
Can I change my distance?
At any time, you can request to drop down in distance within the same event. There is no cost or refund for dropping down.
We do not allow runners to move up in distance in sold-out events.
Is there a waitlist for sold-out events?
Once a race distance sells out, that's it—there will be no new spots, no waitlist, and no transfers. No exceptions.
What if I get sick or injured?
Refunds due to illness or injury are only provided to those who purchased the third-party protection policy. If you did not purchase the policy, you may be able to defer your race.
If you did not purchase the protection policy and are within two weeks of race day, your only options are to withdraw or drop down in distance.
Is there an age minimum to participate?
A minimum age of 12 is required to participate in our events. Runners aged 12-18 will require parental consent, and a waiver must be signed on-site at package pickup or on race morning. We encourage runners aged 12-14 to run with a parent or guardian.
What if my race is cancelled?
In the event of cancellation of the event for reasons including, but not limited to, weather, forest fires, acts of nature, war, strikes or other circumstances, Coast Mountain Trail Running will provide the following limited refund and discount towards the same event in the following year:
- Early access to registration for the same event for the following year only.
- A 25% discount on registration for any distance in the same event for the following year only.
- A partial refund of your entry fee, calculated by CMTR, accounting for factors such as incurred event expenses.
- The option for a full refund on any event merchandise that has been purchased.
- The option to receive the event shirt, purchased event merchandise or any other produced event items, for the cost of shipping.
How to Make Our S#!T List!
We cannot under any circumstances have people running under another person's bib number, as they are not insured to do so. This is not anarchy! We have rules, people! Bandit runners put race permits in jeopardy for future years. Only the actual runner carrying a piece of photo ID will be issued the bib number.
Your bib is for you and you alone. If you check in to receive your bib and then pass it on to another runner, you are sanctioning a course bandit who is not covered under our insurance policy. Both you and this course bandit will be banned from all future Coast Mountain Trail Running events.
Thank you for your understanding and adherence to our race policies. We look forward to seeing you on race day!
